US midterm poll closings: 7 a.m. Singapore, 6 a.m. Jakarta
US polls close from 23:00 UTC Tuesday to 06:00 UTC Wednesday, so returns land across Southeast Asia's Wednesday morning and overlap every major ASEAN stock market session.
Key takeaways
- The earliest US midterm polls shut at 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov 3 (23:00 UTC), equal to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Nov 4 in Jakarta and Bangkok and 7 a.m. in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Manila.

- Every major ASEAN stock exchange holds its Wednesday session while polls are still closing across the US, so early returns will arrive during Asian trading hours.
- Close races can take days to call. This page gives times only and does not predict any outcome.

Which ASEAN stock exchanges are open as results arrive
Wednesday's regular sessions in Southeast Asia overlap almost the whole run of US poll closings after 8 p.m. ET. The table below lists the standard weekday schedule each exchange or its brokers publish; holiday calendars and any special-session notices from each exchange take precedence. Bullquill's guide to Asian stock market hours and holidays lists more markets in UTC.

SET's morning trading starts at a random moment between 9:55 and 10:00 a.m. Bangkok time after a pre-open phase from 9:30 a.m., according to the exchange. SGX's rulebook sets a pre-open from 8:30 a.m. and a ten-minute trade-at-close phase that ends at 17:16 on a normal day. IDX trades on a Monday-to-Thursday schedule on Wednesday, with a longer Friday lunch break that does not apply this week.
In practice, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur open as the 8 p.m. ET states close, Jakarta and Ho Chi Minh City open with the 9 p.m. ET group, and California's polls close during the Southeast Asian morning session. The last Alaska polls close at 1 p.m. WIB, during the IDX lunch break, and 2 p.m. SGT, during Singapore's afternoon session.
What we know and what we don't know yet
The closing schedule is published in advance, and the 270toWin and Green Papers lists agree on every hour group shown above. What nobody can say in advance is when individual races will be called. Votebeat, in an Oct 30 guide to 2026 results timing, wrote that it is "very possible, even likely" that the Senate, the House and other key races will still be undecided at the end of election night in the US.
Votebeat lists several reasons. States with heavy mail voting count more slowly because each signature must be checked and ballots removed from envelopes; provisional and overseas ballots are added after election night; close races can go to recounts; and results are not final until certification, which usually comes weeks later. Euronews, in a Nov 2 explainer carried by Yahoo News Singapore, also noted that the first results come from the East Coast while voting is still under way further west.
A poll closing is therefore the start of counting, not the moment a result is known. Media organisations project winners once they judge the count makes the outcome clear, and Votebeat cautions that knowing who won may take a few days.
Background
The Nov 3 midterms decide control of the House and the Senate as well as state and local offices, with results reported state by state. Bullquill has covered the campaign's crossover with technology, including state laws on AI political ads and a study of how chatbots answered candidate questions, and the market angle in the bitcoin midterm-cycle pattern.
What it means
For readers in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Vietnam, the US election night falls on a working Wednesday morning. Returns from the largest East Coast and Midwest states will be coming in before or during the opening of local stock markets, while West Coast and Pacific results arrive near the midday break. Anyone watching markets or the news should plan around the table above and expect a full picture of Congress to take longer than one trading day. Bullquill does not forecast results.
