Notes on the session table
- Tokyo moved its afternoon close from 15:00 to 15:30 on November 5, 2024, when JPX launched its arrowhead 4.0 trading system. The last five minutes are now a closing auction.
- Hong Kong: HKEX lists the 12:00–13:00 hour as an "Extended Morning Session". HKEX's 2012 announcement said the session was created for a small group of designated "Extended Trading Securities", and ordinary shares break for lunch. Reports in September 2026, including one in Finance Magnates, said HKEX was exploring an earlier start and an end to the lunch break. HKEX had not set a timetable as of those reports.
- Seoul: according to the Korea Times, KRX planned to turn its after-hours session into continuous trading from 16:00 to 20:00 starting in September 2026. The regular session is still 09:00–15:30.
- Jakarta: IDX uses a longer midday break on Fridays. Check the exchange's current schedule for exact Friday times.
- Half days: on half-trading days, Hong Kong and Singapore trade only the morning session. Hong Kong closes with an auction from 12:00. Singapore ends with its closing routine and trade-at-close at 12:16. ASX instead stops normal trading at 14:10 Sydney time on its early-close days.

Asian stock market holidays 2027: what has been published
Exchanges usually set next year's holidays after their governments publish national holiday lists, so how complete the 2027 picture is depends on each government's timing.
Hong Kong (HKEX) 2027
HKEX circular CT/077/26, dated June 1, 2026, closes the securities market on: Fri Jan 1; Mon Feb 8 and Tue Feb 9 (third and fourth days of Lunar New Year); Fri Mar 26 (Good Friday); Mon Mar 29 (Easter Monday); Mon Apr 5 (Ching Ming); Thu May 13 (Buddha's Birthday); Wed Jun 9 (Tuen Ng); Thu Jul 1 (HKSAR Establishment Day); Thu Sep 16 (day after Mid-Autumn); Fri Oct 1 (National Day); Fri Oct 8 (Chung Yeung); and Mon Dec 27 (first weekday after Christmas). Half-day sessions fall on Fri Feb 5 (Lunar New Year's Eve), Fri Dec 24 and Fri Dec 31.
Japan (TSE) 2027
The Tokyo market closes on Japanese national holidays and for the New Year break from December 31 to January 3. Based on the Cabinet Office's 2027 holiday list, Tokyo is closed on: Fri Jan 1; Mon Jan 11; Thu Feb 11; Tue Feb 23; Mon Mar 22 (substitute for the March 21 equinox); Thu Apr 29; Mon May 3 to Wed May 5; Mon Jul 19; Wed Aug 11; Mon Sep 20; Thu Sep 23; Mon Oct 11; Wed Nov 3; Tue Nov 23; and Fri Dec 31. JPX notes that its holidays change if Japan amends its national holiday law.
Indonesia (IDX) 2027
IDX released a 20-day 2027 holiday calendar on September 16, 2026, based on the government's joint ministerial decree on 2027 holidays and collective leave. Trading is suspended on: Fri Jan 1; Tue Jan 5 (Isra Mikraj); Fri Feb 5 (Lunar New Year leave); Mon Mar 8 (Nyepi); Tue Mar 9 to Mon Mar 15 on weekdays (Eid al-Fitr and collective leave, five trading days); Thu Mar 25 and Fri Mar 26 (Good Friday and leave); Thu May 6 (Ascension); Mon May 17 to Thu May 20 (Eid al-Adha, Vesak and leave); Tue Jun 1 (Pancasila Day); Tue Aug 17 (Independence Day); Fri Dec 24 (Christmas leave); and Fri Dec 31 (exchange holiday). IDX says the calendar can change if Bank Indonesia's clearing calendar or the government's holiday decree changes.
Australia (ASX) 2027
The ASX Trade calendar lists 2027 closures on Fri Jan 1, Tue Jan 26 (Australia Day), Fri Mar 26 (Good Friday), Mon Mar 29 (Easter Monday), Mon Jun 14 (King's Birthday), Mon Dec 27 and Tue Dec 28 (substitute Christmas and Boxing Day). Mon Apr 26 is a trading day even though Anzac Day falls on Sunday, April 25. Normal trading ends at 14:10 Sydney time on Fri Dec 24 and Fri Dec 31.
Singapore (SGX) 2027
Singapore's Ministry of Manpower has published 2027 public holidays. The weekday holidays are: Fri Jan 1; Mon Feb 8 (Chinese New Year, observed); Wed Mar 10 (Hari Raya Puasa); Fri Mar 26 (Good Friday); Mon May 17 (Hari Raya Haji); Thu May 20 (Vesak Day); Mon Aug 9 (National Day); and Thu Oct 28 (Deepavali). SGX closes on public holidays. Bullquill could not find SGX's own 2027 half-day schedule. In recent years SGX has held half-day sessions on the eves of Chinese New Year, Christmas and New Year, but treat 2027 half days as unconfirmed until SGX publishes them.
Still pending: China, South Korea, India and Taiwan
| Market | 2027 calendar status (Oct 24, 2026) | What is already fixed |
|---|---|---|
| Mainland China (SSE) | Not published; depends on the State Council's annual holiday notice | Since 2025, China has 13 statutory holiday days, including a four-day Spring Festival and a two-day May Day |
| South Korea (KRX) | Not published | KRX rules close the market on public holidays, Workers' Day and December 31 (Fri Dec 31, 2027) |
| India (NSE) | Not published | The NSE list is normally issued by circular before the new year |
| Taiwan (TWSE) | Not published | TWSE's 2026 calendar was announced in October 2025, according to Taiwanese media |
Third-party calendars already show estimated 2027 dates for these four markets. Bullquill has left them out because they are projections, not exchange notices. Mainland China's Spring Festival closure and its make-up working days, in particular, are only set when the State Council publishes its notice.
What it means
Asian holidays affect more than local investors. Hong Kong closures halt Stock Connect trading between Hong Kong and the mainland. Gaps between Tokyo, Seoul and Taipei change liquidity in the region's chip-heavy indexes. Clustered closures, such as Indonesia's eight non-trading weekdays in March 2027 or the late-December run across most of the region, mean prices can move sharply when markets reopen as they catch up with news from the days off. Bullquill covers those reopenings in its market briefs, including the India stocks brief, Indonesia stocks brief and South Korea stocks weekly brief.
This page will be updated when China, South Korea, India, Taiwan and Singapore publish their 2027 exchange calendars, and if HKEX changes its lunch-break or opening hours. Before trading, always check the exchange's own notice. Exchanges can add closures at short notice for elections, system tests or severe weather. JPX, for example, did not open its derivatives holiday session on November 23, 2026 because of a group-wide business-continuity test.
