Corrections Policy
We try hard to get things right. When we don't, we fix the error promptly and tell readers what changed.
How to report an error
Email [email protected] with "Correction" in the subject line. Please include:
- the link to the article;
- the statement you believe is wrong;
- a source that shows the correct information, if you have one.
We aim to acknowledge every report within two business days and to correct confirmed errors as soon as we have verified them. Indonesian public holidays may add a short delay.
What we do
- Corrections. If we published a factual error, such as a wrong figure, date, name, quote or description of a rule, we correct the text and add a dated note at the end of the article. A hypothetical example:
Correction, November 3, 2026: An earlier version of this article gave the wrong effective date for the rule. It takes effect on January 1, 2027, not December 1, 2026.
- Serious errors. If an error changed the main point of an article, we also add a short note at the top of the article and, if we publish a newsletter, mention the correction in the next issue where practical.
- Clarifications. If an article was accurate but could be misread, we may reword it and add a dated clarification note.
- Updates. When new information arrives after publication, such as a new decision or new data, we may update the article and mark it "Updated" with the date. Updates are not corrections, and we label them differently.
- Minor fixes. Typos, grammar and formatting fixes that do not change meaning are made without a note.
What we don't do
- We do not quietly change facts without a note.
- We do not delete articles to hide mistakes. We remove an article only in exceptional cases, for example for legal reasons or to protect someone's safety, and when we do, we leave a note explaining that it was removed and why, as far as we are able to say.
- We do not change a correction note after publishing it, except to fix an error in the note itself.
Responsibility
The editor is responsible for every published word. Every error is corrected the same way, whoever reports it.
Disagreements
If you disagree with our analysis rather than a fact, we're happy to hear it at [email protected]. We consider every message, but analysis and opinion are not corrected unless they rest on a factual error.
